Basic Small Business Modules
While you may use any module in their apps, there are certain modules that are specifically geared toward the “brick and mortar” small business. These are About, Opening Hours, Location, Testimonials, Contact and Google Calendar. There are also other modules suitable for any small business that you will find under Tools and Custom Pages in your Skybuilder program, such as Beacons 2.0, Loyalty Card, Google Analytics, PayPal Cart, and many others.
This document will go over the basics of how to set up the four WYSIWYG modules: About, Opening Hours, Location and Testimonials.
NOTE: Any of the modules may be used in any app you create, if appropriate to the app. The modules are categorized to make it easier to navigate.
The Skybuilder program utilizes the WYSIWYG feature to make it easier for members to customize their modules with various HTML features without knowledge of HTML (hyper text markup language), a code for creating web pages. (You may also use the actual HTML code if you are familiar with the language.)
WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get.
Using the WYSIWYG editor, enter as much or as little information as you would like to reveal in your app. You may combine all of the information into one section – or break the information out into individual sections if you’d like to do so. Just leave out any information you are not comfortable giving; however, keep in mind that people want to know who they are dealing. Addresses, phone numbers, a way to contact the business owner, etc. is information that carries a lot of weight when building confidence in your app (which is a window to your business).
Using our WYSIWYG modules are explained in the WYSIWYG article.
Pictures are always nice, so if possible upload a picture, or link to one that is already hosted on the web.
You may be creative with the text, upload images, add links to websites, etc. to create an informative module that will describe “who we are” and “what we do.” When you save the module you will see a preview on the right hand side as to what it will look like on the device(s) you’ve selected.
When you click to Hide WYSIWYG View, you will see the HTML that creates the view.
Below the WYSIWYG window you may add an image either above or below the information.
Once the Image is uploaded, and module saved, you will see the preview on the right. What a difference an image makes!
Opening Hours –
The WYSIWYG Module works just as the About module above.
The hours/days the business is open. This is simply a WYSIWYG module that you customize with a picture of the storefront (or office) or just text.
Use this WYSIWYG module to provide details about the small business location and how to get there.
This is another WYSIWYG module that you may customize as you desire. Any kudos or attaboys? Add these to your app as they provide great social proof and should be included in Small Business apps.
Testimonials can be used to promote the app or to serve as pre-existing reviews for a niche/business. Like “word of mouth” advertising, this section is at the top of the list for ways to get others to visit your business.
Keep in mind that your testimonials should not be faked, as that is not only illegal in most jurisdictions, it is unethical. You can easily get testimonials from review sites such as Yelp.
You may use the WYSIWYG editor in Skybuilder to make the text appealing. After you Save and Reload you will see the text you have typed into the editor inside the preview on the right.
