We’ve had a few inquiries from our “in the know” app builders who want to make sure Skybuilder is in compliance with the EU cookie law for anyone serving ads to European residents. This post is simply to let you know that YES! Your Skybuilder program is in compliance!
To implement the required “cookie” law, simply enable the module in your Skybuilder program. That’s it.
If you live in the EU, then you may test it by opening up your app that has Admob or other monetization ads. If you live outside the EU, you may test by using a VPN within the EU. (We recommend Tunnelbear for an easy, free VPN for on-device testing). If you live outside the EU the feature will not pop up.
So, who should use this module?
Everyone who plans to advertise through Admob.
What if I have already published my app?
Simple. Create and upload a new version of your app to the app store. It’s as simple as that to be in compliance with the EU law.
What if I don’t update?
Well, we can’t say for sure. But, since this is a law in the EU, Admob (or other provider) will most likely suspend your account from serving ads. They are rigid on compliance issues!
If you’re clueless as to what the above is referencing … a few weeks ago, Google sent out the following email to anyone with apps in Google Play:
We want to let you know about a new policy about obtaining EU end-users’ consent that reflects regulatory and best practice guidance. It clarifies your duty to obtain end-user consent when you use products like Google AdSense, DoubleClick for Publishers and DoubleClick Ad Exchange.
Please review our new EU user consent policy as soon as possible. This requires that you obtain EU end users’ consent to the storing and accessing of cookies and other information, and to the data collection, sharing and usage that takes place when you use Google products. It does not affect any provisions on data ownership in your contract.
Please ensure that you comply with this policy as soon as possible, and not later than 30 September 2015.
If your site or app does not have a compliant consent mechanism, you should implement one now. To make this process easier for you, we have compiled some helpful resources at cookiechoices.org.
This policy change is being made in response to best practice and regulatory requirements issued by the European data protection authorities. These requirements are reflected in changes that have been recently made on Google’s own websites.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
